Got your attention, didn’t I?
Part of our organization’s history was a staunchly male-centric focus, which we have been very successful in changing over time. That is also the history of most business clubs and service organizations at one time, and as the times changed, so too did the clubs have to change, as has the Blue Goose. (It should be noted that the newly elected executive is 57% female, including our Past Most Loyal Gander. Progress indeed!)
However, prior to women joining as full-fledged Ganders (and high time that happened, by the way!), many of our Ponds did have a Ladies’ Auxilliary. Our own Pond had one for some time through the 1950s and 1960s, and of course spouses have been welcomed at convention for as long as any Ganders can remember.
While scouring the internet for information relating to an old convention, I ran across the May 21, 1945 edition of the Montreal Gazette, announcing the formation of their Ladies Auxilliary! It’s fascinating to me the prominence that our organization once held, where such items were reported on in the major local press.
We have a rich history, but long live our progress!
